Back at the launch of the 8th edition of Warhammer 40,000 we saw a series of volumes from Forge World collecting together all the rules for Forge World units in the new edition of the game. Out the gate as our first winner we have theHornet, because all the reasons they used to be good have pretty much stayed the same or improved. The good news is, it gained 4 wounds. Vindicator Laser Destroyer. Likewise their Dreadnoughts also get the same damage reducing abilities to bring them inline! In the past, there were a few standout units that could be found in almost any army (looking at you contemptors and leviathans), and a lot of units that were just nowhere near usable. All of them got boosts and points drops. Tau also do very well in the points department with the Rvarna getting a big points cut, we also see a number of weapons tweaks too, with increased damage and strength here and there across the range, perhaps pointing at any future upcoming changes in a new book on the horizon. On top of that, the -1 to hit these is now just always on, rather than only when they advance. #warhammercommunity #warhammer #warhammer40k #oldhammer #oldhammer40k #40k #2ndedition #2ndedition40k #tyranids #tyranid #nids #paintingwarhammer #painting #paintingminiatures #miniatures #miniaturespainting #hobby #wargames #wargaming #metal #alien #hivetyrant #warmongers, Awesome fun stream working on the 90s Hive Tyrant! of Forge World units that, at the time of printing, are supported. Warhammer 40k - Imperial Armour . Both Hierodule builds getmassive discounts too (and sit in the Heavy Support slot), and the Scythed option ends up in a pretty similar spot to the Dimachaeron, though Id probably give that monstrosity the not because of its invuln and mobility tricks (though to be fair if you have a slot free to put Dermic Symbiosis on the Hierodule its probably better). All of the Forge World Chaos Space Marine characters, including the Chaos Hellwright, on and off his Dark Abeyant. Only once all shields are down can you start pumping damage into the Titan itself. It does get cheaper, dropping to 1000pts, but the BATTLESUIT keyword is nowhere to be found on its datasheet, leaving without its primary means of defending itself. Since Veterans have a real use case at the moment, this seems honestly fantastic. Astraeus! The Night Shrouds bomb is still one use only, which is a little disappointing but thankfully gets a small points cut. Venatari, Dreads, and Aquilon come out looking pretty damn good with the new FW book. Just like with their Imperial counterparts, we see updated profiles for every variant of Imperial Knight, giving the Chaos Knights access to a large pool of different chassis, these have also been tweaked in regards to points values in line with the Imperial versions! Cerastus Knight-Castigator. Imperial Armour Compendium Review. Massive thanks to @warhammerofficial for sending us a free review copy of Angron! [ [2] Description This compendium includes 222 datasheets, including super-heavy units and highly specialised troops. ability rather than regularWaaagh!, meaning that you need an alternative boss if you want to buff up infantry. Their Gas Bombs are still excellent and with the Grenadiers stratagem will be painful for anyone on the recovering end! The Grey Knights also get a couple of updated profiles with a renamed Land Raider Banisher, getting a small points discount and a Grey Knight specific Thunderhawk getting a massive discount in line with the new profile elsewhere in the book. The Firepike is now 15 range, so a 3 boost which is neat. This tank was utter garbage ever since it released, being essentially a bunch of plasma guns that could overheat to have fewer shots. Chaos codex trove The Air, Water, and Fire element types can carry the following effects. The other builds havent gone downas much as the HPL build, but with every build getting cheaper and a buff being applied to a unit that was already playable makes these the clearest, standout winner here. Thank You, Patrons. Unless youre set on bringing fancy weapon options, stick with the codex version. Todays Forgeworld Preorders Imperial Armour Compendium andNecromunda! Otherwise unchanged. Hes still a respectable choice, as in trade-off for no longer getting to be a non-sensically good psyker he got stat boosts better weapon skill, an extra wound and mortal wound resistance on his shield. **Somebody give Forge World a camera**My first look at the Imperial Armour Compendium from Forge World.Price 40EnjoySave on Warhammer 40K here: - Elemen. The Tarantula Battery also makes the move to a Fortification slot, making taking 3 units of these very tempting for some objective defence! Terrax-pattern Termite Assault Drill-Credit: Pendulin. [[2], This compendium includes 222 datasheets, including super-heavy units and highly specialised troops. At 125 points per model, theyre almost a steal and I could very easily see them getting play in an outrider with lots of Myphitic Blight-Haulers. TheMeka-Dread andMega-Dread both get quite a lot cheaper and that definitely works in their favour they dont have as many weird and wonderful options, but their defensive profile is just way more proportionate to their price if you feel like taking them. Imperial Armour Compendium 40k Rules Breakdown One of the best parts about the book in our opinion is that the points costs are at the end of each section! Not a huge change, but really impactful vs some targets. Just like the other 40k Codexes it includes a code in the back of the book that unlocks these profiles in the Warhammer 40k app too giving you an easy way of accessing the content on the move. The rest are what they are. The Custodians get the profiles that have previously available on the Forge World website, not massive updates for these outside of some points adjustments, but all the Dreadnoughts including the Telemon have been given the same rule as Astartes Dreads allowing them to reduce damage of incoming shots by 1! The Phantom Titan is also a loser obviously its not playable in Strike Force games, but even if you find yourself wanting to spend 3000pts on Titans in a game youre better taking two Revenants, as theyre vastly more efficient. Finally the Tyranids have units with some updates such as the awesome looking Dimachaeron which not only has more wounds and a base 5+ inv save, but can also gain a 5+ wound shrug too if it kills something with its Spine Maw! Enh the smaller daemon princes here seem OK but not great. People! It got both cheaper and bump in firepower, making it an interesting option for someone who wants to go in on vehicles. All of the Artillery platforms and Mortars now do not count the crew as a separate unit, and you simply ignore them for the purposes of combat, they are just for show now! Also RIP Samus, who has been consigned to the Legendary dustbin of history. (LogOut/ Credit: Jack Hunter. The 9th Edition Imperial Armour Compendium was released on October 30, 2020. Grab a brew and paint/chat with us! Minotaurs Imperial Fists with Duellists and Stalwart chapter tactics. If so, that sucks Drills at least were something Id have liked to see stick around in Death Guard armies, and the loss of them is a major blow to a lot of current competitive builds. Much the same as their imperial counterparts! Hellforged Leviathan Dreadnought. Combined with the contents of the new Space Marines Codex you will be able to carry the torch for these under represented armies! Find company research, competitor information, contact details & financial data for STAREVER of ROUBAIX, HAUTS DE FRANCE. We see quite a few units get tweaked to remove degrading profiles too, such as on the Blood Slaughterer. We see some randomness removed in the Orks, especially with the Grot Tanks and Mega Tanks who now have a movement of 6+D6 rather than 2D6 making them a lot more reliable in regards to movement! TheInquisition retain only their two Named Characters. Grey Knights get a variant of the Land Raider which has psycannons on it, for some reason with a different profile than seen on normal ones. 9th Edition Imperial Armour Compendium: The Goonhammer Review The impact was, shall we say, uneven plenty of choices were fine, but there were frequent issues with Forge World units having unintended interactions with newly released rules, and a few choices that were just a bit over-pushed that tended to be over-represented. This 224-page hardback book provides you with all the datasheets and supporting rules you need to unleash the fury of your most powerful units in Warhammer 40,000. As to the profiles themselves, the Krieg have lost any units that still do not have models produced by Forge World In addition to this, with the Death Korps now acting as a supplement to the core Astra Militarum book they simply use the base guardsman profiles for their troops this is a shame as they Krieg did have the advantage of slightly better WS, however I do think this is for the better in balance, as this means that then we get a new 9th Edition Astra Militarum book we will simply be able to port over the surviving Krieg units directly into that new army with minimal issues! 13 - War Machines of the Lost and the Damned, Imperial Armour - Apocalypse I (Second Edition), https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Imperial_Armour_Compendium&oldid=487737, Datasheet entries for two new Factions bespoke to this book . There isnt any massive rules changes, but some minor adjustments and a few buffs/discounts scattered around (or in the case of Venatari, a minor change with a HUGE impact). Change), You are commenting using your Facebook account. Next, what if you want an incredibly stupid super-sized Lord of War drop pod? Stillprobably not durable enough for how hard it is to hide and the cost, but much, much closer to something you want. The Inquisition get a couple of updated profiles for Lok and Rex bringing these guys up to date! The Barbed is a pricier beast, but has some mean guns and a 2+ save, making it a spicy Greater Daemon tier hitter. Otherwise it keeps its 5+ invulnerable save, regeneration, and the ability to move over enemy models. The Imperial Armour Compendium is available to pre-order from Friday. First and foremost are the Astra Militarum which also includes a new Regimental Doctrine for the Death Korps of Krieg. Imperial Armour Compendium. Finally, for winners, theKill Tank looks surprisingly pushed at its new price, coming down 100pts for the bursta cannon build and a mighty 155 for the giga-shoota build. Falchion/Fellblade As an unapologetic lover of all forms of BIG TANKs, I had to take a look at these too. As someone who loves the Death Korps of Krieg and the Titan Legions, I was very excited to see this book and check out the profiles contained within! So what do I think of the new book? 11 named characters, most of which youve never heard of cover the above 5 chapters + the Salamanders. If youre going Krieg, its because you love the models or want to declare cavalry charges! Strictly Necessary Cookie should be enabled at all times so that we can save your preferences for cookie settings. This means that until we see an FAQ or errata saying otherwise, these units areoff-limits to Thousand Sons and Death Guard. Not only do we finally get a Titan Legions faction we can draw our army from, but we also get some massively reworked Titan profiles! Whirlwind Scorpius. This also applies to the Chaos Titan Legions too, who essentially get the same datasheets but with suitably chaotic keywords! Previously this rule made you immune to battleshock from ranged weapons, meaning that the enemy had to kill you to a man if you wanted to shoot the Krieg off an objective. These rules are better than what we used to have, and their costs do sit in a more realistic range than before, but paying 3 CP to take a greater daemon with no exalted abilities is weak sauce. The Hierophant also gets a huge points drop to 850 points from its previous cost of 2000 so hopefully we start to see more of these, as they are amazing models! Whether you want to reclaim the galaxy with the Necrons, burn it to a cinder with the Chaos Space Marines, or convince everyone to join the Greater Good with the T'au Empire, this book contains the datasheets and the points values you need.. Chaos Daemons get some welcome points adjustments, no longer have we got to have points values tied to the Gods holy numbers! I reckon the Studio have done a great job here at bringing together all these profiles updated and tweaked for the new addition with baked in compatibility to their parent Codexes. (LogOut/ Really onlyStone-Crusher Carnifexeshere they cant be taken as broods any more and went up a bit in cost when they probably didnt need to. Such a cool model and was great fun to paint up in a more modern scheme! The Gatling Cannon is unchanged, and the Cleavers Slash profile gets a helpful boost moving to 2 damage from D3. This isincredibly bad;for some units itll just limit to your ability to include multiples but more than likely itll just make some units unplayably bad, since theyre likely to be overcosted before you include the CP. I have been crying out for the Augmented Mount to be usable on any strength of attack, as previously this was locked to S4 and below only, which was a little situational. That probably still isnt pushing them to the top tables. Now your mileage may vary if you only collect one army, but as I have multiple armies with a wide and varied range of Forge World models across them I much prefer having them all in the one book. Corbax isnt bad, but hes not exciting, either. The Cyclopsalso gets a minor discount out of the gate, and hilariously gains the ability to ride in transports (though cant shoot on the turn it gets out, which limits the utility). Ultimately, its a stronger unit, but its still a Lord of War. Change), You are commenting using your Twitter account. Custodian Guard with Adrasite/Pyrithite Spears [CORE] : Pyrithite spears got the new melta rule of half range equals D6+2 damage, but also went up by 5 points, so a slight nerf overall. This has changed somewhat from the previous incarnation, and arguably is a little worse for your foot slogging troops. Thats exactly it. Ares Gunship: ARES-GATE continues, with a 20 point increase, and the attack changes from the Orion. I absolutely do not think doing so is a good idea for your army, but its in a similar spot to a few other things now where it probably isroughly costed right for what it can do, its just that factors of the mission design still keep it non-competitive. A lot of the profiles have been tidied a little and they benefit greatly from this, as degrading profiles on low wound models like this was often a problem in the previous edition. Nice buff, and considering they are my favorite troop unit, I am certainly not complaining. Credit: Jack Hunter. Alright, onto the shared units, I guess. Brayarth Ashmantle keeps his strength 8, but drops from toughness 9 all the way to toughness 7. The premium it pays for having built-in deep strike is massively lower than it used to be, and being able to deploy from the webway removes the worry about it getting punked straight off the board. The Death Guard get the Blight Drone, which is pretty cool, but nothing else. The Sentinel has historically been the better unit, but the Stalker is nowso cheap that I actually might give it the nod as the superior option just as a throwaway push unit. A vindicator: cool. If youre a user of these its worth scanning through and checking for the addition of Blast on their guns Knights missed out on the first pass of FAQs due to not being in the main indexes. Cerastus-Knight Lancer saw not only a 20 points drop, but also gained a souped up melee attack profile for when it charges. Effectively this is the second movement nerf of the Cerastus variant (because reasons). This ability is included on most relic units dawning from the Horus Heresy era if a unit has this ability on its profile then the detachment it is taken in increases in cost by 1CP. The Necrons get a new fortification in the form of the Sentry Pylons these have made the move from the Heavy slot freeing up some precious Heavy choices for more Doomstalkers! Finally, in terms of really big mean things, the Hierophant is an actual unit you can kind of take now, down to 850pts instead of its previous, comical 2K price tag. Given how good Ghaz is that isnt a massive ask, and this guy importantlycan still takeDa Killa Klaw, has the right keyword to beDa Biggest Boss if you arent packing Ghaz, and has gained a point of toughness (T7!) If you disable this cookie, we will not be able to save your preferences. None of these losers should be at all surprising to anyone keeping an eye on what was showing up in competitive lists. As a bonus, leviathans can now take nipple volkite, rather than just heavy flamers. Also randomly lost 1 point in base strength characteristic, not that is was any good in melee anyway. The Kustom Stompa not only gets a decent points cut to 800 points, but also gets ome much improved weapons such as the Belly Gun now getting 3D6 shots! Also Available on Spotify & Google Podcasts, The Hive Tyrant was one of the first models I ever painted for Warhammer 40k, so when I saw an unpainted one on ebay I knew I had to paint it up in honour of it! Any weapons that Forgeworld doesnt currently make in 28mm are gone, so goodbye to reaver chainfists and carapace weapons that arent the apocalypse missile launcher and warlord carapace weapons that arent apocalypse launchers or laser blasters. They killed my DKOK, thanks a lot after buying a Gorgon. There are a couple of grumbles about missing units that are still available that do not have profiles, and sadly a few formatting errors here in there with incorrect battlefield roles and power values, which is a little bit of a disappointment in a 40 book. OK, there are three major things to note here. None of them.and all of them. Ultimately, it does still get hard-countered by some flavours of hordes, and any game played with it is going to be a knife edge of making sure you dont get charged by a melee killing machine, but in a similar way to the Taunar in 8th I can see people picking it up and running it to 3-2 finishes or the occasional 4-1. The bad news is, it now degrades in much more boring fashion, losing Movement, WS, and BS (dropping to 5+), but it doesnt lose any Attacks or Strength, so at least theres that. Sicaran Omega. You can find out more about which cookies we are using or switch them off in settings. The Hornet Pulse Laser has gone down in power a little (sidegrading to S7 but only two shots), but that build is correspondingly much cheaper, dropping to 90pts instead of 115pts. The Adeptus Mechanicus get updated profiles for the Secutarii with rules keying off the new Titan Legion keyword that has been added for Titans. Change). How many wounds? It retains the CORE keyword, and if you arm it with a kheres assault cannon or multimelta and dreadnought close combat weapon it costs the same as the codex version (well, and an extra 1 CP cost.). It does still have an incredibly silly amount of firepower, some guns even getting better than before, but it also drops to BS3+, and I think honestly the dream is probably dead. Loyalist Knight Atrapos. This is a great change as I often felt some of the Forge World units had some very odd costings. Such an awesome model and can't wait to paint more! Someone out there was listening, because this was always the fix it needed. 47.8M . Cool, but nothing particularly good. Unfortunately, both of these get hit hard by being forced to take theInspiring Leader warlord trait. So if you were debating trying it before, it is certainly more tempting now (but still D3 damage, ugh). After how nice and cheap and usable this was at the end of 8th, it still feels expensive as all hell. Learn how your comment data is processed. Unfortunately for Tau players, the Yvahra finally gets knifed in the back, fulfilling a long-held vendetta festering in the hearts of many players who ran up against them in early 8th when they were actually good. This website uses cookies so that we can provide you with the best user experience possible. The unit cost now is the same regardless of weapons (which makes pistol/buckler 5 points cheaper) AND both weapon load outs got a buff. Other Cerastus-Knights are all only 12 movement at top bracket now, which isnt a huge thing, but it is still a nerf. Putting aside the insult that they cost the same as their loyalist counterparts, lacking the HELBRUTE keyword is a big problem and the added CP cost to bring them makes them more of a liability than anything. Well be following up further on some factions over the next few weeks, so make sure you keep an eye out for those if youve got a particular set of units in mind. You Give Goonhammer Writers Serotonin. Blood Angels Sicaran Omega. Sky Slasher Swarms also get a bump their stats and costs are unchanged, but they get built in deep strike.
